About us

A small café with a very short list of priorities

Brindle & Bean started with three ideas written on the back of an invoice: good coffee, fresh food, and a comfortable local space. Everything since — the menu, the room, the hours — has been an attempt to keep those three honest.

We opened on a quiet Parkhurst side street because we wanted to belong to a neighbourhood rather than a shopping centre. The first regulars arrived in the first week and, happily, never really left.

Good coffee

We buy from small South African roasters, grind to order and taste every batch before service. No shortcuts, no burnt espresso.

02

Fresh food

The kitchen is open and the menu is short on purpose. We'd rather make twelve things properly than forty things adequately.

03

A comfortable space

Soft seats, real plants, no rush. Whether it's a meeting, a first date or a quiet hour alone, the table is yours.

The quality bit, without the speech

We weigh our shots, bake our own pastries, buy produce weekly and throw out what isn't good enough. It's not glamorous work, but it's the reason your flat white tastes the same on a Tuesday as it does on a Saturday.
